SOCCA is a non-profit corporation firmly established within the First Nations of Quebec since 1992. We are positioning ourselves as a partner of choice for the First Nations of Quebec's economic development and expending all our energy in projects likely to contribute to the Aboriginal people's social and economic development. To do so, we are providing daily support to our clients in terms of entrepreneurship funding and development.
Since we have great knowledge of our clients' culture and needs, we have developed, through the years, a way of doing business that clearly stands out from conventional financial institutions. Our personalized approach adapted to the First Nations' reality is therefore an important advantage for clients. We are working creatively to meet the financial needs adapted to the Aboriginal world.
SOCCA is one of 32 Aboriginal Capital Corporations implemented throughout Canada since 1985 within the context of the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada's Aboriginal Business Canada program. We are thus working together with First Nations, federal and provincial governments, as well as other institutions to contribute to the development of viable Aboriginal businesses.
Acting proactively SOCCA has initiated a new financial product specifically adapted to First Nations investors. We have thus set up, in 2005, the Aboriginal Savings Corporation of Canada (ABSCAN) that is offering, in particular, savings bonds whose interest is non-taxable for First Nations members. Let's point out the success of this initiative, since the objectives set when creating the ABSCAN have all been largely exceeded.
Always concerned with meeting the needs and expectations of Aboriginal people, SOCCA is also involved in funding in the form of venture capital as a sponsor of First Nations Venture Capital of Quebec, l.p.
